Juneau Prosecutor to Recieve Attorney General's Award

Anchorage, Alaska - The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Alaska is pleased to announce that Juneau based Assistant United States Attorney Jack S. Schmidt has been chosen to receive the Attorney General’s Award for Outstanding Contributions by a New Employee of the Department of Justice.

AUSA Schmidt joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office in September 2009 as the first AUSA assigned to the newly opened Juneau Branch Office.  During his three years of service,  Mr. Schmidt has handled a diverse list of cases, including financial crimes, crimes against children, fish and wildlife, firearm and immigration violations and, in addition, he has successfully prosecuted a number of large scale drug distribution conspiracies affecting Southeast Alaska.
Mr. Schmidt’s dedication and successful efforts have will be recognized in a ceremony to take place in Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. on October 17, 2012 at 2:00 pm.

U.S. Attorney for Alaska, Karen L. Loeffler stated, “We are very proud that the Department of Justice has chosen to recognize Mr. Schmidt’s outstanding contributions to justice and protecting the citizens of Southeast, Alaska. Opening a branch office in Juneau was a longtime goal of the United States Attorney’s Office and Mr. Schmidt has been a wonderful choice to lead the office’s increased service to our Southeast communities.”
